The State of Oregon defines "Assisted Living Facility" as:"A
building, complex or distinct part thereof, consisting of full,
self-contained individual living units where six or more seniors and
people with disabilities may reside.
The facility offers and coordinates a range of supportive services
available on a 24-hour basis to meet the activities of daily living,
health and social needs of the residents as described in the rules.
A program approach is used to promote resident self-direction and
participation in decisions that emphasize choice, dignity, privacy,
individuality, independence, and home-like surroundings."

The State of Oregon mandates that the facility administrator of an Assisted Living Facility must :
- Complete a DHS-approved 40-hour training
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Hold a High School Diploma or GED-equivalent
- Have 2 Years Professional or Management Experience in the Health or Social Services Field
- Complete 20 Hours of Continuing Education per Year
- Submit to and Pass a Criminal History Check
